When we brought Baby home as a little puppy, we didn’t know about GW Little or these awesome poochie bells. We did train Baby to use a bell at the door when she needs to go out, but it isn’t nearly as pretty to look at as these poochie bells are. They are on our pet wish list.

I have to admit, we felt pretty smart using a bell chime that we had as a make shift doggy door bell! We also felt pretty smart that our genius pup could easily tell us when she needed to go out to do her thing.

What about your dog? Do they know how to ring a bell to go out?

We love it when we find fun websites for pet owners, and DrawtheDog.com is a great one! It’s all about owners and their dogs, and the silly, fun, cute things that happen when you share your life with a furry friend. Every cartoon starts with a story and/or photo contributed by an owner.

About the site:

Jim George, a former Disney animator, draws cartoons inspired by stories that dog owners submit about their dog. Just six months old, Jim’s cartoons already have a fanatical following of women who view DrawtheDog.com as a respite from daily obligations. Thanks to Jim’s talents, the site is funny, charming, and utterly involving.

They would love to receive more stories, which can submitted on the Make Your Dog Famous page. And we are lucky enough to have one of the cartoons from DrawtheDog.com to share with you (be sure to visit the site to see the cartoons draw themselves)!

BISSELL’s annual Most Valuable Pet (MVP) contest is under way. Now in its third year, the 2010 BISSELL MVP Contest invites pet parents to submit photos of their furry friends for a chance at the title of Most Valuable Pet. Entries are open from January 1 – March 25, 2010, with prizes to include the chance to feature on BISSELL pet product packaging, a $10,000 donation to the pet charity of choice and a “Perfect For You And Your Pet” $500 shopping spree, courtesy of BISSELL. Be sure to visit the website to learn more and enter your pet.

The top voted pet from each week of the contest will move on to the semi-finals, from which the grand-prize and second through fifth prize winners will be selected. BISSELL will be announcing the weekly winners and offering exclusive contest news through Twitter and Facebook. To help pet parents garner votes for their photogenic pets, BISSELL created a series of custom widgets that can be uploaded to blogs and social networks such as Facebook, helping to win votes and the hearts of the pet’s family and friends.

The 2009 BISSELL MVP grand prize winner, golden retriever Norman, is a breeder for a Columbus, OH service dog program – 4 Paws For Ability. He and his owner, Tara Driscoll, used the $10,000 prize to obtain a seizure dog to assist two special needs children in their community. Tara, a substitute teacher in the local school system, taught the pair of brothers at their special needs preschool, and has remained in touch with the family as they’ve grown. Now ages six and eight, the boys have been in need of a seizure dog for several years, but the cost of their medication has hindered them from obtaining one. Thanks to Tara and Norman, they now have an additional four paws to assist them!

So, if you have an adorable pet, be sure to enter them in the BISSELL MVP photo contest to win something great for you, and your favorite animal charity! And if want to send some votes our way during the current voting period, please come vote for Baby the Maltese using the button below! Thanks!

Begun in 1996 by the Humane Society of America, National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week encourages everyone who loves animals to bring public awareness to all the important work shelters do throughout the year.

You can visit www.BringPetsHome.org to learn more about National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week and ways you can help support the work of shelters, from utilizing the “Shop to Help” page to downloading a “twibbon” to your BringPetsHome profile.

What I love is that you can use BringPetsHome’s “Shop to Help” page all year long to raise money to help shelters care for homeless pets. If you are like us and shop online often, this is a great way to help animals by doing something you would be doing anyway! Their “Shop to Help” page serves offers more than 150 major online retailers, like Amazon, Sephora, Wal-Mart, iTunes, and many more.

To help raise money through shopping just register at www.bringpetshome.org to select a shelter to support, then click-through to the merchant of choice. Each retailer specifies a percent commission on the Web site and donates that percentage of the purchase to BringPetsHome. You don’t have to pay anything extra to help support your chosen shelter.

Though National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week ends on November 7th, the site is a great way to show your support for shelters year round. Especially right now with so many pets being given up due to the economy, Bring Pets Home next time you are going to do some online shopping!

A new episode of Dog Whisperer is airing on National Geographic channel tomorrow night (Friday, October 23 at 9PM ET/PT). As an artist, Daniel Maltzman relies on inspiration, but he can’t inspire his 2-year-old Pekingese, Pekaso (Picasso), to eat or drink. Pekaso refuses dog food and gets freaked out by the ripples in the water dish; she’s even become so dehydrated Daniel had to take her to the vet. Cesar works to repaint this dog’s canvas. But the real surprise is what Pekaso’s owner does for Cesar and Daddy…it will move any long time fan of the show!

Then, Daniel’s friend Brendi Blackburn has problems of her own with 5-year-old Chihuahua Valentino, who bites people. Can Cesar play muse and inspire these two to become true pack leaders? Then, Claudia Imson’s two chow mix brothers, Yogi and Smokey, pick fights with each other. It’s so bad that when the dogs are in the house, she has to keep them in separate rooms. Can Cesar put an end to this sibling rivalry?

Here is a fun sneak peek. I have a feeling that if you are a Dog Whisperer fan, this is one episode you won’t want to miss!

And in other fun news, there is a new canine community, NatGeo Dogs. Soon, NatGeo Dogs will be a community for dog owners and enthusiasts, where you’ll be able to create profiles for you and your four-legged friends and share photos and stories. Go check it out!

Shop ‘til you drop in support of animal shelters, then get together with friends to share stories, advice and even pictures – all online. That’s the goal of the newly launched www.bringpetshome.org. The fund raising Web site also offers exclusive content for cat and dog owners which includes information on pet care and safety, information on animal shelters, as well blogs, groups and open forums.

The site’s primary purpose is to raise money to help shelters care for homeless pets. It serves as an online portal where visitors can access more than 150 major online retailers, like Amazon, Sephora, Wal-Mart, iTunes, and many more. To raise money, online shoppers register at www.bringpetshome.org to select a shelter to support, then click-through to the merchant of choice. Each retailer specifies a percent commission on the Web site and donates that percentage of the purchase to Bring Pets Home. There is no additional cost to the consumer.

Every year, six to eight million animals enter U. S. shelters. According to the ASPCA, as many as one million additional dogs and cats are in danger of losing their homes in 2009, at a time when fewer donations are coming in. All need food, shelter, and medical care, so that they have the chance to be reunited with their original owners or adopted into caring, permanent homes.

“Bring Pets Home is a great way for pet lovers to raise money to help homeless animals without ever leaving home—and at no cost to them,” says Linda Block of Bring Pets Home. “More pets are entering shelters, but donors’ purse strings have tightened. Anyone can help by simply remembering to visit http://www.bringpetshome.org to click-through to a favorite online merchant whenever shopping online.“

About Bring Pets Home

You may know that we are owned by a cockatiel, so of course when Liz wrote about her site, Birdy Paradise, I just had to invite her to guest blog about it.

Start of guest post:

Hi there!
I’m very pleased to meet you all. My name is Liz and I’m a guest blogger from birdyparadise.com. Aimee offered me the opportunity to write something up for her, and here I am!

So birdyparadise, huh? ‘Nother one of those pet blogs? Well, yes. The hubby and I like birds. We like ‘em a lot.

Right now, this little blog of ours is in its infancy. We’ve got bits of this and that – and maybe, just maybe – put together, it’s a whole lot of nothing in particular. And where exactly am I going with this? Quite frankly, it’s hard to say. Traversing the blog landscape will certainly be an adventure. Sure, it would be nice to make some money in the process, but realistically speaking, we don’t see that happening. It’s really just a personal project. What can we say? Birds are great, and there’s nothing unusual about the fact that we’d like to connect to others who share our passion.
Bird-representation in the pet bloggers’ community (as it stands today) is underwhelming, to say the least. We just want to give our feathered friends a fighting chance. So whether you’re a devotee of the majestic macaw, or humble ‘keet (who’s actually not likely to be humble at all!), we’d like to get to know you. Whether you’re looking for a laugh, or interested in sharing something of your own, you’re more than welcome to hop on over.
We can’t promise that every post will make you tear up from laughter, but we can promise to do our best to put a smile on your face (if only for a brief moment). And we’re not trying to convert any of you mammal-lovers out there, we just want to show you that birds can be pretty amazing, too.
So drop on by if you’ve got the time or the desire. And don’t forget to check out our budgies’ profiles in the About section – they’re really pretty thrilled with the prospect of being “famous” online!

Wishing you and your pets well,
Liz (and Puffles…and Fifi…and Bubu)

BIRDS OF A FEATHER GROW UP TOGETHER — Already showing the large, frog-like mouths that give the species its name, Hoover (L) and Sawyer (R) are tawny frogmouth chicks that were hatched at SeaWorld Orlando last month. Until recently, the population of tawny frogmouths in North American zoos was facing extinction and breeding programs were largely unsuccessful. SeaWorld worked with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums to develop a breeding program to help sustain the species’ growth. And, the program is showing early success — in less than a year, six chicks have been hatched and all are now thriving at the park. Frogmouths are native to the forested savannas and open woodlands of Australia. When fully grown, the insect-eating birds will be between 9 and 21 inches tall. To learn more about tawny frogmouths and other animals, explore SeaWorld.org.

Hello Animal Lovers~

Pettalez.com is a community for animal lovers (dogs and cats) who can interact with each other, share photos, videos, inspirational stories and create custom profiles. We wanted to create a place where people and their pets can come together, share positive information and promote animal organizations.

We are not a corporate website who is trying to sell a product; rather we genuinely care about the animal community and believe Pettalez can make a difference by sharing our passion and love with the entire world. We believe that when someone shares their pet stories, photos, and videos they become a family and a source of love, laughter, and inspiration for others.

Pettalez.com also encourages anyone who is active in the animal community to please let us know. We realize the continued challenges the animal community faces today and Pettalez.com wants to help. We truly believe that if we can help promote our local shelters, animal organizations and rescues that we can further your efforts of finding your animals a loving home.

We welcome you to come and take a look at Pettalez.com and register. Currently, we are having our 1st annual Holiday Pet Photo contest! Winner will receive an oil painting of their winning photo. Stop by for more details!! We want you to be a part of our loving pet family.

Love,
Pettalez.com

Be sure to stop by and check out the Holiday Pet Photo Contest, you might just see a familiar face (Baby the Maltese, our sweet mascot). Plus, you could win the oil painting, what an awesome prize! Thank you Pettalez for letting us know about your site, we wish you great success!
