Purina Pro Plan is kicking off a social donation campaign, driven by cat photos! You can help feed cats waiting in rescues, and all you have to do is share your cat photos on social media using the #MyGreatCat hashtag!
Pro Plan wants to inspire cat owners to capture moments with their own cats, and then share what makes cats great! Until Aug. 31, for each post, Pro Plan Cat will donate one pound of its cat food (up to 50,000 lbs) to cat rescue groups in need through the Rally to Rescue network. You can see more details on this here: http://www.proplan.com/mygreatcat.
Pro Plan has also enlisted help from 19-year-old photographer Jessica Trinh for a new photography collection that explores what’s so great about cats.
Jessica is known for some of her captivating portraits of dogs, but she had never photographed cats so Pro Plan guided her on a journey to discover the qualities and quirks that make cats so unique by inviting her into the homes of 10 cat owners. She chronicled their personal stories through a photo collection, which will be revealed Saturday, June 14 in San Francisco’s Union Square. We can’t wait to see the results!
Start sharing! We can’t wait to see all the things that make your cat so great.
If you are in NYC, please consider joining this important class. Sat May 3 from 10am-1pm in Manhattan.

Sponsors Are Able to Contribute As Little as $10 to Help an Animal Get Spayed/Neutered
Every year 3-4 million dogs and cats die in animal shelters in the United States because there aren’t enough homes for them. FiXiT is dedicated to coming up with solutions to reduce the number of homeless animals by helping people get their animals get spayed/neutered. GetYourFix.org, a program of nonprofit organization FiXiT, is an online resource whose primary purpose is to introduce people in need of financial assistance to get the animals they care for fixed to generous people willing to sponsor their pets’ spay/neuter surgery.
“The site was created in response to the heartbreaking requests received from people wanting to do the right thing – telling us of their personal hardships and asking for our help to end the cycle of unwanted kittens and puppies,” said Dr. Kellie Heckman, Co-Founder of FiXiT. “GetYourFix-registered pet owners have an extremely low income, 70 percent have a household income of less than $25,000, and 95 percent have a household income less than $50,000. As a result of this program, over 1500 surgeries have been sponsored since the launch of GetYourFix in 2011 in these low-income households.”
In honor of World Spay Day 2014, GetYourFix will dramatically ramp up a microfunding feature – Fix of the Week – to meet a goal of raising funds to spay/neuter 25 animals. Over the course of the Spay Day week, February 24 – 28, sponsors will be able to contribute as little as $10 to the cost their choice of featured animals. Profiles will be chosen based on several criteria, including the caregiver and animal’s story, level of need, and risk of unwanted pregnancy, such as in homes with both an unaltered male and female of the same species.
