Animal Protective Association’s Harmony House for Cats

We are excited to tell you about Animal Protective Association’s Harmony House for Cats new eco-friendly, net-zero cat shelter in Chicago! Animal Protective Association’s Harmony House for Cats is a registered 501c3 charitable organization. New volunteers, supporters and adopters are always welcome. The grand opening for the new shelter will be on Sunday, July 8 from 2-6 pm at 2914 N Elston. It is free and open to the public.

Since 1970, Animal Protective Association’s Harmony House for Cats has rescued and rehabilitated stray and injured cats in a no-kill cageless environment. Opened in June 2012, the Eco-friendly Adoption Center showcases cats and kittens in Chicago’s greenest shelter.  The building’s heating and cooling needs are powered by 14 geo-thermal wells, 20 solar thermal panels and a solar photo voltaic system.

Designed to be Net-Zero Energy and concurrently pursuing LEED-NC Platinum certification, the building provides a sustainable operational future for Harmony House through the construction of a high-performance building, and provides a replicable model to other non-profit organizations.
