We hope that you all had a wonderful holiday weekend, we sure did! Baby was very excited about what was in her stocking and gifts, hopefully your pets were spoiled a bit too. You may have heard of a great program called Iams Home 4 the Holidays.
Right before Christmas on December 23rd, orphan dogs and cats available for adoption visited the New York Stock Exchange to ring the closing bell and raise awareness for pet adoption!
In honor of this occasion, representatives of Helen Woodward Animal Center, Bideawee, and Iams Home 4 the Holidays rang the Closing Bell, along with the help of orphan dogs and cats. Also joining the group was the Iams Home 4 the Holidays Adoption Angel Jack with his adopted dog Jane (Jack adopted Jane from Bideawee in October).
Iams Home 4 the Holidays – founded by Helen Woodward Animal Center, aims to place 1.5 million orphan pets in happy, loving homes this holiday season and significantly reduce the number of orphan pets in shelters around the world. The program kicked off on Oct.1, 2010 and will end on Jan. 4, 2011. Since the beginning of the program in 1999, IH4TH has helped nearly 5.5 million animals find loving homes.
Current Adoption Update:
Dog/Puppy 467,015
Cat/Kitten 394,575
Other 17,222
Total estimated adoptions 878,812
Iams Home 4 the Holidays runs from Oct.1, 2010 to Jan. 4, 2011, with this year’s goal to find forever homes for 1.5 million pets. 1.3 million pets were adopted last year alone! The program has 3,500 partner animal organizations (21 participating countries around the world).
For information on how to get involved, how to find a participating shelter in your area and other important tips for new parents, please visit the Iams page on Facebook www.facebook.com/iams or on their website IamsHome4theHolidays.com. And as always, if you are looking to add a pet to your family, please consider adoption/rescue first!
