When my daughter was about 5, we took in a stray momma cat (starving) and her 2 skinny kittens! It was about Halloween time and we were reading Halloween books and my daughter got to name the kittens! Ghost (calico with lots of white) and Spooky (black tortoise shell, after black witch’s cat)! I got to name mama cat… Miss Kitty (like the old western tv show).

  23. Kelly Ann T. says:

I could not have made it thru this college semester without my study buddy. My dog doesn’t go to bed without me, he stays up and helps me study.

  24. Danielle E. says:

So I hear barking at 2am one night and I go out to find my cocker spaniel had gone out the doggy door into the yard (in Tucson) chasing a HUGE colorado river toad. These are huge, poisonous and they taste bad. So she was foaming at the mouth from the secretions on the toads skin, would drop it and the second it would start hopping away she would go after it again and pick it up only to drop it (imagine endless repeats of this). I separated them and then hosed out her mouth to remove the toxin

  25. Alicia says:

When my niece was about 2 years old, I remember her picking up the family cat. However, the way she did it was she grabbed a hold of his head in one hand, the tail in the other. She lifted the cat up, and promptly tried to bite him on his body. Thankfully, the cat wasn’t hurt and he also did not try to attack her afterwards, even though no one would have blamed him for it.

    Thanks for the giveaway >^..^<

My Alaskan Malamute loves to go to the pet costume contest at Halloween. He gets so excited when I get out the costumes.

  27. Betty C says:

We had a great German Shepherd who loved our pet rabbit. The kids would let the rabbit run around in the back yard and the dog would chase it. But actually the rabbit did more sitting than running so the dog would run up and tap the bunny’s tail to make her hop. As soon as the bunny moved the dog was happy but the rabbit kept stopping to snack. So the dog would start tapping again. The dog never tried to hurt the rabbit and we got so much entertainment from watching them.

The kids had a big shaggy black dog named Bubba a few years back. His name was Bubba because he was big & dumb, but very sweet. He used to pull them around on the skateboard.

  30. Kelly Ann T. says:

My dog loves to sit in the front seat of the car, he sits with his rear in the seat and his front feet on the floor. At 125 pounds his ears reach the top of the truck but he will not lay down in the back seat. He wants to see what is going on around him.

  31. Karen Gonyea says:

    Love it :)

  32. Kimberly says:

I had to run into Target one day and had my little guy with, so I put him in his puppy carrier (which looks like a purse) and snuck him in. He’s well behaved and quiet so I thought no one would notice. When I was at the checkout, he stuck his little head out and the old lady behind me started ohhh-ing over the baby. Umm, he’s cute, but way too hairy to be a real baby and I would carry a baby in a bag. :)

  33. susitravl says:

We have 2 dogs, a 25 lb. terrier mix, Foxy and a 4 lb. chihuahua, Lucy.

Lucy follows Foxy everywhere, and when we walk, Lucy is always a few steps behind. Foxy will stop and piddle in the grass and Lucy usually ends up getting it right on her head, but she never learns – she just keeps walking up behind Foxy to see why she stopped. She has to get her head washed when we get home every day.

  34. momznite says:

My sister’s cat likes being pushed around in a doll’s stroller so much that he hops in the stroller and meows until one of the kids begins to push.

  40. Nicole Greene says:

We have a 3 yr old puggle named Magoo. My hubby and I bought him as a puppy in Las Vegas while we were working on a traveling sales crew. While one that crew we stayed in hotels and we weren’t allowed to have pets in the hotel we were at. So, we used to wrap him in sheets like he was dirty laundry just to take him downstairs and outside to go to the bathroom…lol :)

  41. Nicole Greene says:

I “LIKE” Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul on Facebook (Nicole Pitts)

  42. Charlene says:

We use to have a cocker spaniel & she liked to hide things. I figured this out one day when I kept losing pencils from my desk & I thought I was losing my mind. Then when I was cleaning out my closet I found her stash of pencils in the back of the closet. Strange, but true :)

  43. Anna E. says:

My puppies now are always stealing my broom and dragging it to another part of the house. And they are only about 5 lbs each… hmm

  44. Lori Z. says:

Since our “pup” is an outdoor dog, I didn’t bathe him over the winter. On Saturday I decided to get him clean and strip his undercoat. The kids helped me get him into the bathroom, but then when it came time to lift our Irish Wolfhound/Great Pyrnees mix into the tub, all my daughter said was, “that’s a lot of dog” and shook her head. So I had the joy of lifting the 130 lb puppy into the tub and my daughter trained my son to say “that’s a lot of dog” as he helped wash him.

  45. Carolsue says:

This is probably pretty common, but one of my cats has totally taken over the baby’s crib. He doesn’t go in there when the baby is in it, but when he’s not, the cat’s in there like a flash! He gets very perturbed when he gets booted!

When I was a kid, during the summer the only time we wore shoes was when we were leaving the house for some reason. Our beagle Annie figured this out, and would run by, snag one of my shoes and hide it, so that I couldn’t leave. Led to some really great chases.

  48. Erica C. says:

When I was younger, one day we helped our family dog dig a hole. He started to dig, so myself and a friend decided to help him make it bigger. It didn’t go over too well!

  49. Amy Delong says:

Not really a funny story, but my dog who is half pitt/german howls like a wolf,it sounds so funny!

  50. Christina says:

My first pet as a child was a baby meadowlark! My family and I were vacationing, when I was ten, and my father showed me a nest with four baby birds and a mother. That night there was a storm and the next morning we came back to see if the nest was o.k. and the mother and three babies were dead, but one was still alive and my father taught me how to raise and feed it and it imprinted on me and went everywhere on my shoulder! Ever since then I’ve loved all kinds of birds and have parrots now!

  51. karen says:

One of my neighbors has a young dog named Haley. The other has an older dog named Bailey. Haley was making a ruckus and her dad said “Haley, sit!” Bailey sat. Dad said “Haley, sit!” Bailey got mad He went nuts barking because he already sat.

  52. Sonya says:

Our cat is extremely funny. He’ll sit on the post of our stairs and chase his own tail (even though people always say cats don’t do that) and he’ll eventually get so busy he’ll fall off (and he doesn’t always land on his feet!)

  53. Terri L says:

I actually heard a funny story last night about kids and pets. A friend of mine went outside to find her 5 month old puppy, who had been on a tie out, gone. When my friend had gotten back from the grocery store the neighbor girl had been petting the dog so she decided to go check with the girl to see where he went. The 6 year old girl was sitting at her house with the puppy. She decided to just unhook him from the chain and take him home!

  54. Melissa says:

I took in a stray kitten last year who has a bent paw. He seems to get along just fine with it. I rescue cats in my free time. He was very special though with his paw and his name is Apollo. We caught him one day walking inside of the turtle inclosure. I couldn’t believe he could do that but he did and now he continues to do it.

  55. Lori Hart says:

We have two cats and an african grey parrot. The bird rules the roost. When he flies down off his cage and walks along the floor, the cats part and allow him to pass

One Christmas we videoed our kittys with us on Christmas day, they were delightful and enjoyed all the excitement and the ribbons and paper left behind on the floor from the wrapped gifts was a joy to watch them play with. It was a Blessed Christmas and I’ll always remember that

Hm. I don’t know if I have a fun story! In my family, we’ve always had pets, I can’t recall one year in my life when we didn’t have one. When I was growing, our house was on the corner of the street, and somehow we became th drop off location for unwanted strays. No matter how hard my mother tried she couldn’t say no, and we always had an abundance of furry creatures running around!

  62. Steph S. says:

My parents’ dog is kind of neurotic and his latest “quirk” is that he’s actually afraid of his dog dishes. He barks at them and runs away whenever he goes to get a drink!

  63. SUSAN SMOAKS says:

when we first got our dog samantha, she would take my dirty clothes and put them by the front door. i think she was telling me to get out, she wanted to be the woman of the house now!

  65. Karen P says:

I got lady from the pound and brought her home. A few days later lady was missing and managed to escape from our yard. We ran all round the neighborhood calling for her and trying to find her. We had given up all hope and went inside to try and figure out what to do. That is when we spotted her back in the back yard with a new friend who was to become our new dog Mary Jane. We later found out there was a small opening in the back between the 2 fences and behind a big bush.

  66. Shellie says:

My first pet was a hamster named Jerry. My dad was in the army and that hamster rode all the way from New Jersey to New Mexico with us!

  67. Jennifer R says:

My first pet was a small grey cat named Molly who had kittens in a box under the sewing machine cabinet in my parent’s bedroom.

  68. Sarah L says:

My first cat (many years and cats ago) was named TV because she was in black and white. (I said it was many years ago)

  69. Sarah L says:

What I don’t understand about cats is how they can vary their weight. A cat can walk across you when you’re lying in bed and depending on what she’s thinking about, she can walk lightly (seeming to weigh very little) or she can put on her elephant shoes and make me wince.

  70. Sarah L says:

Speaking of elephant shoes, my cat can run upstairs, around the bed and back downstairs and it sounds like a herd of elephants. Ten minutes later, if she’s still in her racing mood she can do the same race and I can hardly hear her. Can someone please explain this breech of the laws of physics?

  71. Brittney Canady says:

My dog feather LOVES to sing! We started “Singing” with her when she was a puppy. Now anytime she wants attention she will keep on until someone sings with her.

  72. Brittney Canady says:

Last night as I went back to the laundry room to put the clothes in the dryer , my cat Suki was sitting in the warm dryer! He looked so cute. I guess it was warmer in there than in the house.

  73. Brittney Canady says:

As you can tell my husband and I are animal lovers. My dog Sassy is so jealous of her doggy brothers and sisters. Anytime they try to get near me when she is in my lap she will growl at them until they leave her alone.

  74. Brittney Canady says:

My doggy sister, Missy is so spoiled. Each time my mom goes shopping she will go through all of the bags hunting her prize before my mom has time to put things up.

  75. Brittney Canady says:

Missy also loves to eat Mighty Dog. She knows when she is out my mom has to go to the store to pick up more. One day while at the store she jumped out of the car and ran into the grocery story. Mom said she was hunting her Mighty Dog.

  76. Judy Pokorny says:

I had my front door open this afternoon when I heard this “whoosing” sound. I went to see what was going on. My neighbor’s dog was running for it’s life; a mama deer was in hot pursuit. She was literally on his tail for getting too close to her baby (an adorable little fawn). I have never seen anything like it. The deer was relentless; thankfully the dog made it home safe.

  77. Kelly Ann T. says:

My dog loves the barking treat jar. If he is outside messing around and I have to go to work I just open the lid. HE runs as fast as he can to get his treat.

  78. Kelly Ann T. says:

When we go to concerts or movies in the park we always bring the dogs. One time we didn’t because the dogs went to the country with my parents. Everyone wanted to know where they were. The people might not know our names but they know our dogs names.

  79. Kelly Ann T. says:

My dog and I went to a doggie egg hunt where we found a little baby bird. I couldn’t find the nest so I wrapped a towel around him and put him in the car. We took him to the song bird rescue group and the whole way there my dog was curled protectively around the bird and the towel.

  80. Kelly Ann T. says:

My dog took 3rd place in the sillest photo contest. I have a photo with his tongue sticking out, and it is way out.

  81. Sand says:

My Heidi thinks she’s a cat. She loves to stretch her body out on the top of the sofa which couldn’t be a problem if she didn’t weigh 60lbs!

  82. Donna K says:

My dog like for me ad my kids top hold him like a baby. The only thing is that he weighs 85 pounds!

  83. Veronica Garrett says:

We had a Vietnamese Pot Bellied Pig when our daughter was just walking. She chased the pig around the house.

  84. Gianna says:

My dog and cat are named after the ones in the simpsons family :)
