This is a truly amazing animal encounter! Earlier this month, California surfer, Jodie Nelson, decided that she would paddleboard the 40 miles from Catalina Island to mainland California to raise money for breast cancer in honor of her best friend and mother who both survived recent battles. Half way into her journey got some unexpected company, a 30-foot pygmy whale that Jodie nicknamed Larry. Once word spread about her new companion, donations started to pour in and helped Jodie raise over $100,000 in 24 hours. Larry swam with Jodie for two hours before going back on his way.
Isn’t it great that Larry the pygmy whale helped a great cause?! It’s an encounter that I know I would never forget, and I am sure that Jodie won’t either.
