Bring Pets Home

Begun in 1996 by the Humane Society of America, National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week encourages everyone who loves animals to bring public awareness to all the important work shelters do throughout the year.

You can visit www.BringPetsHome.org to learn more about National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week and ways you can help support the work of shelters, from utilizing the “Shop to Help” page to downloading a “twibbon” to your BringPetsHome profile.

What I love is that you can use BringPetsHome’s “Shop to Help” page all year long to raise money to help shelters care for homeless pets.  If you are like us and shop online often, this is a great way to help animals by doing something you would be doing anyway! Their “Shop to Help” page serves offers more than 150 major online retailers, like Amazon, Sephora, Wal-Mart, iTunes, and many more.

To help raise money through shopping just register at www.bringpetshome.org to select a shelter to support, then click-through to the merchant of choice.  Each retailer specifies a percent commission on the Web site and donates that percentage of the purchase to BringPetsHome. You don’t have to pay anything extra to help support your chosen shelter.

Though National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week ends on November 7th, the site is a great way to show your support for shelters year round. Especially right now with so many pets being given up due to the economy, Bring Pets Home next time you are going to do some online shopping!
