Race for the Rescues

5K Run/Walk, Kid’s Fun Run and Adoption Celebration
Co-Hosted by Jane Lynch andCarrie Ann Inaba

Animal lovers Jane Lynch (Julie & Julia) and Carrie Ann Inaba (Dancing with the Stars) will help The Rescue Train host its 4th Annual 5k Run/Walk (3.1 miles) at the renowned Rose Bowl in Pasadena. This day of fun with Hollywood flair will raise funds for seven Los Angeles animal rescues, all non-profit 501c3 organizations, who together help save thousands of animal lives. The event will be held on Sunday, October 4th, 2009. Registration begins at 7:00am and the race promptly kicks off at 8:30am.

This is Los Angeles’s premier animal-related fundraising event benefiting the following non-profit rescue organizations: The Rescue Train, Best Friends Animal Society, Animal Alliance, A Dog’s Life Rescue, Stray Cat Alliance, Four-Legged Friends Foundation, and Molly’s Mutts & Meows. Each year these groups combined, rescue and find homes for over 2,000 abandoned Southland dogs and cats, animals that most likely would otherwise have lost their lives.

Lisa Young, Director of The Rescue Train, explains the added significance to this year’s event: “Due to the economic crisis our donations are down 40%. This means less dogs and cats can be saved. Because of foreclosures, the city shelters are in crisis and flooded with animals – which, in turn, has dramatically increased the euthanasia rate. The animals need us now more than ever!”

Lisa goes on to say, “It is our mission to bring the community together to help us save as many of these precious lives as we can. Participants can join either as individuals or start a team. This year, with the economic downturn and the huge numbers of animals inside the city shelters, we hope that more attendees will find it in their hearts to provide a new home for one of the rescue animals at the event, and adopt.”

Jane Lynch, currently starring in the new Fox series “GLEE” and the current theatrical hit “Julie & Julia,” returns again this year. “Our rescued pets give us constant companionship and unconditional love, and these animal rescue groups are too often short on the necessary resources to give the best care these animals need. They go above and beyond and are truly doing remarkable work, and I’m more than happy and honored to give them my support,” says Jane Lynch.

Carrie Ann Inaba, star of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” also returns to co-host the Race and is passionate about the cause of unwanted pets in our community. She says, “The solution, of course, is for everyone to spay and neuter their animals and eliminate the overcrowding that causes so many to end up in city shelters. But until we can make that a reality, it is our responsibility to care for all of the animals. That is why events like these are so vital.”

This year’s turnout promises to be even bigger and better, bringing together families, children of all ages, Girl & Boy Scout troops and other community organizations, schools, even corporate teams, for a day of fun and fundraising for our furry friends!
