1,202,751 Saved!

You may remember that we posted to let you know about a great program called Iams Home 4 The Holidays. Well, we got such great news in our in box that we just had to share this press release with you! The program helped find homes for 1,202,751 animals world wide! Now that is exactly the kind of email we love to receive!

DAYTON, OHIO (Jan. 13, 2009) – Dedicated to drastically reducing the number of orphaned pets around the world, Iams Home 4 the Holidays today announced that 1,202,751 animals were adopted through its global pet adoption drive in just three short months, far exceeding its goal. In a massive effort, this annual campaign set the bar high with a goal to find homes for 1 million orphaned dogs and cats beginning Oct. 1, 2008 through Jan. 5, 2009. The program enlisted the help of award-winning actress and pet adoption advocate, Felicity Huffman, as its North American Ambassador to inspire others to open their hearts and homes to a pet in need. And together with founding partner Helen Woodward Animal Center, 3,500 worldwide animal organizations and Huffman, Iams Home 4 the Holidays has helped save the lives of more than 3 million animals since it began in 1999.
“I am so honored to have been part of this important cause – it’s amazing to think of the impact we’ve made on the lives of so many pets,” said Huffman. “I’m sure all of these new pet owners will experience the same feelings of joy and reward that my family and I feel from our adopted dog Tucker. He is so much more than a wonderful pet, he’s part of our family.”
Seventeen countries participated in the adoption drive, making Iams Home 4 the Holidays one of the world’s largest pet adoption programs. The program has made a substantial impact on the lives of animals all over the world, with 591,533 dogs, 543,569 cats, and 67,649 other animals (such as rabbits, reptiles, birds and more) finding happy homes this past year.
“We’re absolutely thrilled that so many people have adopted pets during Iams Home 4 the Holidays,” said Dan Rajczak, vice president and general manager, P&G Pet Care in North America. “Year after year, more pet adoption organizations join our mission to save the lives of orphaned pets, and with more than 1.2 million pets adopted since we began on October 1, I think it really shows we’re winning the fight to raise the awareness about the importance of pet adoption in North America and around the world.”

Hi Aimee! Thanks so much for spreading the word!! In case your readers are interested, there are two (among many) wonderful videos on YouTube that I highly recommend.

The first one is of Mike Arms of the Helen Woodward Animal Center detailing how Iams Home 4 the Holidays got started. Here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlIDLjwFwWo

The second video was done at our local “dog pound,” the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center. I recommend it because it shows how caring the folks are who work there, and also details a couple of adoption success stories. Here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xPZzwzxK24

    Enjoy!

  3. Wow, that is very good news.
