Salute to Marine WWII War Dog Handlers

American Dog Clubs Sign Contract With Department of Homeland Security

What: The Doberman Pinscher Club of America (DPCA) will host more than 400
Doberman Pinschers and owners, enthusiasts and dog
handlers from around the world
for its 83rd Annual National Convention and Specialty Dog Show. Highlights
for dog enthusiasts include:

*Monday, October 13 (7:00 PM) ~ “The Beautiful:” Nation’s Top 20
“winningest” Dobermans compete for top dog status in conformation dog
show

*Tuesday, October 14 (7:00 PM) ~ “The Athletes:” Top 20 agility-ranked
Doberman teams race through obstacles

*Wednesday, October 15 (7:00 PM) ~ “The Smartest:” Top 20 obedience dogs
compete to prove who is smartest

SPECIAL ALERT:  Thursday, October 16 (7:00 PM) ~ “The Heroes:” Ceremony
commemorating the 100 Year anniversary of the Doberman Pinscher

*Event will include a special tribute and salute to the 11
surviving U.S. Marine War Dog Handlers of World War II (
majority of these dogs were Dobermans) to include a marching
band and seven men and women who are handlers of service dogs
today

*The DPCA, American Kennel Club (AKC) will also sign a contract
with the Department of Homeland Security, launching a national
public/private effort to secure American working dogs for
protecting America

*Other special participants to include: Mayor of Topeka (also a
Marine); Deputy Commander of the Marine base near Kansas City;
Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Department of
Homeland Security; the President of the American Kennel Club

KANSAS CITY ~ SPECIAL ALERT:   Surprise Greeting to Marine War Dog Handlers
Arriving for the Celebration and Motorcade Ride:  Wednesday, October
15th
*5:20 PM – Kansas City Airport (outside Baggage Claim for
Northwest Airlines, Terminal C) 60 American Legion riders on
motorcycles will escort the Marines to the hotel and convention
center in Topeka (location of the week-long celebration); the
captain of the Kansas City Airport police dept, accompanied by
his team of dog handlers and their K-9 dogs will participate in
the send-off

*7:00 PM (Capitol Plaza Hotel & Convention Center) – The m
otorcade’s arrival in Topeka will be greeted by 100 cheering
fans and their Dobermans; 20 members of the American Legion
Honor Guard; 20 members of the Marine Corp Junior ROTC will
line up to create an arch with sabers for the Marine War dog
handlers to walk through
