Do you know your pet’s birthday?
A new survey shows that 43 percent of pet-owning Americans do not know the exact birth date of their pet and that doesn’t seem fair to our four-legged friends. You and I get to celebrate a birthday every year, shouldn’t the dogs and cats that give us nothing but love have a day to celebrate too?
Well, on Saturday, May 17, Purina is hosting a nationwide “Fur-real Birthday Pawty” Celebration. Pet owners are encouraged to honor their pets at the same time shelters across the country will celebrate the rescued dogs and cats in their care that may have unknown birth dates. In addition, Purina has teamed up with entertaining expert and author of Dog Parties: Entertaining Your Party Animals, Kimberly Schlegel Whitman, to provide your readers with great ideas for planning their pet’s birthday party. Your readers can also visit purina.com/petlover for more ideas.
Survey details:
- Thirty (30) percent of the pet owners surveyed said they celebrate their pet’s birthday on the day they adopted their pet since they don’t know their actual birth date.
- While 16 percent of celebrating pet owners just pick a random day to recognize their pet’s birthday.
- Ninety-two (92) percent celebrate their pet’s birthday because their pet is part of the family and needs to be recognized.
However, while nearly a third of pet owners have either taken a family portrait with their dog or cat, or signed their pet’s name to a Christmas card, only six percent have invited family/friends to a pet’s birthday.
