Adventures in pet parenting.
We have a bird and a rat. The rat has been part of our family for a little over a month now. We have tried to introduce the bird and the rat to each other, and they tolerate each other. However, it turns out that our bird is very territorial. We always suspected this about her, since she loves to yell if you mess with her stuff.
One of the things we were hoping for is that they would keep each other entertained in the day time when we are gone. And while the bird does enjoy watching the rat run around, she really only tolerates it for a time, then she starts getting loud.
Have you seen rat ears? They are made to hear, and hear well. So, obviously this isn’t a match made in heaven. We are keeping them apart to avoid any mishaps, and to protect the little rat ears from damage. But the funniest part of it (at least for us) is how unafraid our bird is of our rat. Our bird! The bird who is afraid of her own feathers fluffing in the air!
Do you have any stories about introducing new pets to your other pets? How did it go?
